AutoTest® Standard Modules

Autotest

Automatically tests:

  • For 5 minutes duration monthly
  • For 1 hour duration 6 monthly
  • For 3 hours duration annually
  • Mains present and connected
  • Battery present and in circuit
  • Operation of battery charger
  • Operation of emergency lamps
  • Operation of emergency circuit & module

The Mackwell Emergency Light AutoTest® System is built into a selected range of emergency lighting modules and routinely tests all the fundamental aspects of the emergency lighting luminaire, reporting status through the LED. The unit complies with the draft CELMA specification for Emergency Lighting Testing systems, and exceeds its testing requirements.

A continuous green LED indication: specified for AutoTest® emergency modules confirms:

  • Mains present and connected
  • Battery present and in circuit,
  • Satisfactory operation of the battery charger.
  • A flashing green LED: indicates a faulty lamp.
  • The LED off: indicates a battery fault, or lack of power connection.

The AutoTest® System goes into self test mode automatically at a suitable time, the test schedule commences within a period of 37 days of commissioning. This is programmed into the modules during manufacture to ensure that no more than 15% of luminaires in an installation are on test in any one day. After this period, tests will be carried out on a 30 day time frame as required, at a period of low risk, normally when the switched supply is off. If a period of low risk does not arise within 7 days of the required test then the test will be carried out immediately. A longer duration test will be carried out every 6th and 12th test.

Three durations of test are provided. Monthly the unit is activated for 5 minutes and the output to the lamp tested at the start and finish; 6 monthly the test will be conducted for 1 hour, and annually the test will be conducted for the full duration of 3 hours.

User Reset Facility

To reset the LED after the fault condition has been rectified, the user simply switches the switched or unswitched supply ON/OFF twice within 10 seconds, either external to or within the luminaire.

Test Report Status

After each monthly test, the memory status is incremented by one. The current status is displayed by the extinguishing of the LED each time the mains is turned on. After a delay of 30 seconds the LED extinguishes (in groups of three to facilitate counting), to indicate the number of tests carried out, and resets after each annual test. In this way, users can be assured that essential monthly, 6 monthly and annual tests have been carried out, and compile any supporting records that they may require. For example, 7 extinguishes at switch on followed by a steady LED indicates 6 previous monthly tests have been executed, and the unit is fully operational.

An audible alarm

will sound should a fault condition be found during a test. The alarm will sound for 3 seconds every 30 minutes until the fault condition is rectified and the unit reset.

Compatible with High Frequency Ballasts

The AutoTest® Modules are compatible with all known high frequency ballasts, utilising 4 pole change over relays, and incorporating ballast disconnection to ensure that ballasts are powered down during tests. This will enable them to be reset as if they had been switched off. AutoTest® luminaires should be left powered off until the installation is finally commissioned.
